ABOUT

I oversee the creative director team at T Brand, the in-house advertising studio at The New York Times. I published my first piece with The Times in 2013 and have worked at New York Times Advertising since 2015, when I joined T Brand’s editorial team. If you look up my NYT byline you’ll mostly see hair and makeup coverage from Milan fashion week … it’s a long story.

As a creative director and team lead, I do pretty much all the stuff: video, social, experiential, print, podcasts, events, out-of-home, brand strategy, copywriting, long-form storytelling etc. My clients have included Netflix, Nike, Showtime, Paramount+, National Geographic, IBM, Delta, Google, GE, Spotify, Intel, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Prada, 3M, Gucci, Nest and YouTube, among many others.

My work has been featured in Adweek and won a Webby for Best Branded Editorial Experience. In 2021 Digiday Awards named T Brand Best Content Studio and I was shortlisted for Creative Person of the Year by Campaign US. In 2022 I oversaw the creative for GE’s “How Focus Takes Us Further” campaign. It was the first time in the paper’s 171-year history that a single advertiser owned an entire print edition exclusively (as well as The Daily and most of digital). You can read about it in Axios, Digiday and Campaign US.

I’m still a writer, journalist and editor, too. Over the years I’ve covered music, art, travel, film, TV, food, comic books and nightlife. My writing has appeared in The New York Times, T Magazine, GQ, Salon, Refinery29, Vice and Interview. I recently wrote a profile of Leaving Records for Ssense, you can read that here. And something about a really nice gym for GQ. And I’m a once-in-a-while contributor to Pitchfork and was a pop culture editor at Complex, where I ranked every year of Leonardo DiCaprio’s life (did you know that young DiCaprio killed a pigeon when he was six? It’s true, probably.)

I grew up in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA, studied Philosophy at UC Berkeley, attended the Columbia University Publishing Course and taught English in Japan with the JET Program. In 2019 I moved to Los Angeles where I live with my wife, son and retired racing greyhound, Fiesta “Hal” Jalisco. Before that I lived in Brooklyn.
